Double shots & forget-me-nots (2011)
by Kat Miller & Adam Quillian
Welcome to the Double Shot Café, where more is brewing than just the coffee. Jake, the shop’s junior manager, wants to start a queer community center in his town. But Jake is a dreamer, not a doer, so he pushes all the work onto others, especially his gal pal, Rebecca, who buries herself in the project as a means of escaping her problems. As the grand opening for the center draws near, the group faces a rise in anti-gay sentiment in their community that challenges them personally and threatens their efforts to create a safe and accepting environment.
Set against the backdrop of a fantastical coffee shop, the show explore themes of acceptance and self-worth while dealing with the contemporary issues of homophobia, transphobia, bullying and youth suicide. Written by Diverse Harmony members Kat Miller and Adam Quillian, who play Anita and Jake in the show, “Double Shots and Forget-Me-Nots” features an original score filled with mystery, wit, edge, and emotion.
So pull up a chair and grab a drink. You’re always welcome here!
